  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs

  • 2 tbsp barbecue sauce (plus more for glazing)

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For Serving:

  • 4 burger buns (toasted if desired)

πŸ”₯ Instructions

1. Prepare the Patty Mix:
In a large bowl, combine ground lamb, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper.
Mix until just combined — don’t overwork the meat or it’ll get tough.

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into burger patties, about 1 inch thick. Make a small indent in the center (this helps them cook evenly).

3. Bake the Burgers:

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

  • Line a baking tray with parchment paper or lightly oil it.

  • Place patties on the tray and brush lightly with olive oil.

  • Bake for 18–20 minutes, flipping halfway through.

4. Add Barbecue Glaze:
During the last 5 minutes, brush the tops with more barbecue sauce for a sticky, smoky finish.

5. Assemble the Burgers:
Toast your buns lightly.
Layer lettuce, the lamb patty, a slice of cheese (optional), tomato, and red onion.
Drizzle with more barbecue sauce or mayonnaise, then top with the bun.

🍟 Optional Add-ons

  • Add crispy fried onions for texture.

  • Mix a spoonful of mustard or hot sauce into the barbecue glaze for extra kick.

  • Serve with roasted potato wedges or coleslaw on the side.

This recipe focuses on simple ingredients and the right technique to create tender, restaurant-quality hamburgers right at home.

πŸ§‚ Ingredients (Makes 4 burgers)

πŸ– For the Patties:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20 blend — 80% lean, 20% fat)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)

  • 1 tsp onion powder (optional)

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional, adds depth of flavor)

πŸ” For Assembly:

  • 4 burger buns, toasted

  • 4 slices cheddar or American cheese (optional)

  • Lettuce leaves

  • Ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise

πŸ‘©‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the Beef

  • In a large bowl, gently mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, and optional seasonings.

  • Be careful not to overmix — this can make the burgers tough.

2. Shape the Patties

  • Divide the beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 oz or 115 g each).

  • Shape each into a patty about ¾ inch thick and slightly wider than the buns.

  • Press a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb — this helps prevent bulging during cooking.

3. Cook the Burgers

Option 1: Grill

  • Preheat grill to medium-high heat (400°F / 200°C).

  • Grill patties for 3–4 minutes per side for medium doneness, or until they reach 160°F (71°C) internally.

  • Add cheese slices during the last minute of cooking to melt.

Option 2: Pan-Fry

  • Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy pan over medium-high heat.

  • Add a small amount of oil or butter.

  • Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through.

4. Toast the Buns

  • Lightly butter the cut sides of the buns.

  • Toast on the grill or in the pan until golden brown.

5. Assemble the Burgers

  • Spread your favorite condiments on the bottom bun.

  • Layer lettuce, patty, cheese, tomato, onion, and pickles.

  • Top with the other half of the bun.

🌟 Burger Perfection Tips

  • πŸ₯© Use 80/20 ground beef — enough fat for juiciness and flavor.

  • πŸ§‚ Season just before cooking to avoid drawing out moisture.

  • πŸ”₯ Don’t press down on the patties while cooking — it squeezes out the juices!

  • πŸ§€ Melt cheese on top during the last minute of cooking.

  • 🍞 Rest the patties for 2–3 minutes before serving to keep them juicy.

🍽️ Optional Add-Ons

  • Bacon – crispy and smoky.

  • SautΓ©ed mushrooms – adds umami flavor.

  • Caramelized onions – sweet and rich.

  • Avocado slices – creamy and fresh.

  • Fried egg – for a gourmet touch.

The Worlds Best Homemade Hamburger Recipe

The Worlds Best Homemade Hamburger Recipe

 My Preferred Burger Recipe

Although I grew up preparing chicken kabobs and beef kafta, once we relocated to the Midwest, homemade hamburgers became the star of the grill.

My mother always maintained a straightforward approach to her hamburger recipe, utilizing ground beef, salt and pepper, an egg, and breadcrumbs. Depending on the weather conditions, we would either grill them outdoors or cook them indoors on a grill pan. Over time, I have acquired several tips that enhance my homemade hamburger recipe, ensuring they remain juicy and flavorful while still being quite simple to prepare. (Be sure to check out the tips below!) These burgers pair wonderfully with a side of grilled sweet potato wedges!

Happy Cooking!
Beef Hamburger Ingredients
Ingredients required for the recipe prior to preparation: Worcestershire sauce, spices, breadcrumbs, an egg, and lean ground beef.

Ground beef: I prefer using 85% lean ground beef for my burger patties. This fat content is ideal for keeping the burgers juicy without making them overly greasy.
Egg: If possible, use an egg that is at room temperature. This allows the egg to blend more seamlessly with the ground beef.
Worcestershire sauce: While A1 or other steak sauces can be used, I believe Worcestershire sauce is the best choice for burgers.
Seasonings: A combination of paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
Breadcrumbs: Ensure they are finely ground for optimal texture. You can also create your own breadcrumbs if you find yourself without any.

How to Prepare Hamburgers

  • Nonstick Square Grill Pan
Notes

The nutritional information is based on one beef hamburger and does not account for the bun, toppings, or sides.
Storage: When stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, the cooked burgers will remain fresh for up to 3 days. They can be reheated in a skillet with a small amount of oil or in the microwave until heated through.
Freezing Instructions: Freeze uncooked patties on a baking sheet, then transfer them into a ziplock bag. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight prior to cooking.

Substitutes: For optimal results, adhere to the recipe as written. However, here are some common substitutes that may be effective in this recipe.
Instead of using breadcrumbs, all-purpose flour can be utilized.

To create a gluten-free version, consider using quick oats, almond flour, or panko breadcrumbs.

Please be aware that the video features Dijon mustard, but this revised recipe now incorporates Worcestershire sauce for a slightly more savory taste. Dijon mustard remains an excellent option for this recipe.

Basic Homemade Hamburger Recipe

Basic Homemade Hamburger Recipe

This hamburger recipe exemplifies simplicity and perfection, requiring only four ingredients—no fillers necessary. Homemade hamburger patties are straightforward, needing just seasoning and a hot grill or skillet.

Holly’s Recipe Highlights
Flavor: These patties are juicy and flavorful, without any fillers.
Skill level: The preparation of these hamburger patties is remarkably easy, allowing for advance preparation.
Toppings: These basic yet delicious burgers can be enhanced with your preferred toppings such as tomato, lettuce, pickles, onion, bacon, or sautΓ©ed mushrooms.
Budget tip: Transform leftovers into an entirely new dish! Incorporate them into hamburger soup, chili, or spaghetti sauce.
Freezing: These hamburger patties can be conveniently frozen; refer to the recipe notes for guidance.

Choosing Beef For Homemade Hamburger Patties
Ground Beef: A truly excellent hamburger begins with the appropriate meat. I recommend an 80/20 blend of ground beef (also known as lean ground beef). This blend contains sufficient fat to maintain the moisture of the hamburger patties without being greasy or causing flare-ups. Regular ground beef tends to have excessive fat that drips onto the grill, while extra-lean beef can lead to dryness.
Seasonings: Worcestershire sauce aids in browning the beef and contributes a delightful savory flavor. The seasonings are uncomplicated. The salt in this burger recipe can be substituted with a homemade burger seasoning.
Cheese (optional): Cheddar cheese is among the finest choices for topping a burger, but feel free to explore other options such as pepper jack.

How to Cook Hamburgers
I reserve breadcrumbs for meatloaf and allow the flavor in this recipe to derive from the beef itself!

Combine beef, grated onion, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Shape the patties and create an indentation in the center of each with your thumb to prevent them from puffing up during cooking. Chill as directed in the recipe below.

GRILL: Cook the burgers over medium heat for 4-5 minutes on each side.
STOVETOP: Utilize a heavy-duty skillet or cast-iron skillet. Cook the burgers over medium heat for 4-5 minutes on each side.
AIR FRYER: Arrange the prepared patties in a single layer in the air fryer. Cook for 6 minutes, flip, and then cook for an additional 3-5 minutes.

The secret to achieving perfect hamburgers, irrespective of the cooking technique employed, lies in the use of a meat thermometer. Burgers should attain a temperature of 160°F or slightly lower, as they will continue to cook after being taken off the heat. Additionally, it is essential to allow the burgers to rest for a few minutes prior to serving.

Open Faced Classic Hamburger Recipe
Holly’s ProTips for Great Burgers
Utilize 80/20 lean ground beef to ensure a bit of fat for enhanced flavor.
Mix the meat mixture just until combined; excessive mixing will result in a tough burger.
Employ your thumb or the back of a spoon to create an indentation in the center of each patty. This technique will prevent bulging in the center.
Hamburger patties will contract and become slightly thicker during cooking, so shape them a bit larger than your bun.
Once the burger is fully cooked, place a slice of cheese atop each patty and allow it to rest until melted for the ideal cheeseburger.

Notes
Utilize the large side of a box grater to grate the onion.
To Freeze: Hamburgers can be frozen (either raw or cooked and cooled) with parchment paper placed between each patty for a duration of up to one month.
To Cook on the Stove Top
Preheat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
Season the exterior of the burgers with salt and pepper according to taste.
Introduce 1 tablespoon of olive oil into the skillet. Add the beef patties and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side or until they reach 160°F.
Allow to rest for 5 minutes. Serve on toasted rolls or buns.
Air Fryer
Arrange the prepared patties in a single layer within the air fryer. Cook for 6 minutes on one side, flip, and continue cooking for an additional 3-5 minutes.
Store raw burgers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Store cooked burgers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground chuck (80 to 85% lean)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 4 homemade hamburger buns
  • Desired toppings and condiments
INSTRUCTIONS

In a large bowl gently mix the beef, salt and pepper together. Divide the homemade hamburger meat into 4 equal portions. With your hands, gently and lightly shape each portion into a 3/4 to 1-inch thick round patty. Press the center of each patty down in the center to create a 1/4-inch indentation. This will help prevent your homemade hamburgers from bulging in the middle as they cook.
Rub oil around a Cast-Iron Grill/Griddle or a Large Cast Iron Skillet placed on the stove over medium heat. When the oil is glistening and pan is hot, place the burgers into the pan indentation side up.
Cook until the burgers are browned on the bottom, about 4 minutes. Flip the burgers over with a sturdy spatula and continue to cook 4 to 5 more minutes or until they reach desired doneness. The homemade hamburger recipe is ready to serve....enjoy the Basic Homemade Hamburger Recipe !! !
